The Uffizi is the most ancient museum of recent Europe, and its collection of Italian and European paintings is one of the biggest and most remarkable in Italy and in the world.
The architecture of the Uffizi has no equal among XVI century’s buildings, and it testifies the greatness of that era.
Built for the Granduke Cosimo I de’ Medici by the great architect Giorgio Vasari, the Gallery is situated at the second floor of the massive Uffizi building (the name recalls the original purpose of the building: hosting the administrative offices of the Medici’s government)
